Even though the sport of bass fishing had been around since the turn of the century, it wasn’t until the development and implementation of modern technological advancements into the sport that it gained widespread success and acceptance throughout the country. These developments really began to take effect on the bass fishing market in during the late 1950s and early 1960s.

During this period, new inventions, including nylon strings, artificial lures, composite rods, and other useful fishing accessories, greatly added to fishermen’s ability to have multiple same-day catches, launching the sporting version of bass fishing to popularity. In the later part of the twentieth century, the prominence of fly fishing for bass also grew, thereby adding another dimension to the modern spectrum of bass fishing.

One of the driving factors in these developments was – as always – the desire to be the best. Many sport fishermen realized that these advancements greatly increased their chances of breaking the world record for bass weight – a twenty-two pound bass caught in Georgia in 1932. However, despite all the modern technologies that have been introduced over the years, this record remains in effect today.

Many people consider bass fishing to be a purely American past-time, but this is not simply the case anymore. In recent years, fish stocking programs have become more popular as a means to help people find accessible bass fishing locations in their local areas. However, the success of these programs has led to bass stocking programs in other countries like Japan and South Africa. The success of these international stocking programs has made this sport increasingly popular in nearby countries as well, and is serving to create a worldwide name for bass fishing.

The production of bass fishing television programs and magazines, and the introduction of more specialized equipment for bass fishing, makes it easier than ever to get started in the world of bass fishing. These things have also encouraged the creation of a bass fishing culture, making the sport’s niche more globally well-known. In addition, specialty stores like Bass Pro have opened the door for ordinary people to go in and buy everything they need for their first big bass fishing adventure.

However, some of the recent technological advancements in the sport are just as controversial as they are good. For example, many sport fishermen are now using a device that emits sounds into the water simulating a school of fish, which is food for the bass. This sound attracts the hungry bass and makes them more accessible to the fishermen. Some fishermen argue that this takes much of the skill and timing out of traditional fishing – since you’re relying on technological means to draw in your catch, instead of using your knowledge to catch fish.

While this may be an unwanted advancement, it’s unlikely to be the last of its kind. Only time will tell what other advancements in bass fishing technology will occur as the sport increases in popularity and the demand for better equipment goes up.

Many people associate bass fishing with daytime. Whilst the light hours of the day are undoubtedly the most popular for bass fishing enthusiasts to be out and about on the lake, night bass fishing is slowly but surely growing in popularity. It has been around for a number of years, but it has now reached a peak in popularity, especially during the summer months.

Night bass fishing originally came about in the 1960s, when artificial lures were created. However, there are more people fishing for bass at night than ever now because of the facilities that are available.

Many pools and lakes offer night fishing facilities and many boat houses offer overnight rentals so it is entirely possible to go bass fishing during the night hours, but how do you catch bass in the dark?

The first secret of night bass fishing that can bring you a massive haul is fishing the topwater first. Fishing the topwater may seem a little odd at night given the fact that temperatures will have dropped greatly and bass are cold-blooded creatures.

However, bass are very active during the night and often feed more at that time so they are likely to bite. As such, there are some great topwater lures that you can use when out night fishing for bass. Spinnerbaits and plastic worms will work a treat. The shadows they create will fool the bass into thinking that there is food up for grabs so they will head straight for it.

The experience of topwater bass fishing at night is one that every bass fishing enthusiasts should take in at least once. The fact that you are going in blind makes everything a little more intuitive rather than strategic.

You will be able to feel the motion of the water because that sense will overcompensate for the fact that you can barely see anything. As such, it gives you a chance to refine your style. This is why one of the secrets of successful night bass fishing enthusiasts is to enter into the activity with an open mind. Do not go in with some preconceived notion of what it will be like. Instead, you have to enter into it ready to change your style at the drop a hat.

The most successful night bass fishing enthusiasts actually time their trips out onto the lakes with the light of the moon. If there is no moon in the sky or a slight one then the bass are far less likely to feed than they are if there is a full moon, no matter what time of year it is. As such, experienced bass fishing enthusiasts will make sure that there is a full moon when they head out onto the water.

If you regularly fish on one particular lake at night then you will get to know when the best days are of every moon to go. Bass are habitual creatures and will rarely vary their routine so it is getting to know it so you can enjoy the experience and gain a good level of success at the same time.

I get a lot of great “How To” bass fishing questions, and I think it’s great that more people are becoming interested in fishing. I love answering their questions, but frankly, it’s easier to show than it is to tell (or type, as it were). However, I’ve put together some basic information that I hope will be helpful and get people started fishing.

Lures and Styles of Fishing

Bass fishing techniques are varied as they are numerous. There’s no simple answer that will suit everyone all the time. I’ve picked out two of the best and easiest techniques to explain and I feel that they will have some benefit to those who are just getting started in bass fishing.

Shaky Head Fishing – This is a rather new technique that is quickly becoming one of my favorites (and apparently many other people feel the same way). It’s making the rounds in the fishing tournaments and does quite well. Ironically, it seems to do even better when other lures aren’t getting much attention from bass. I have actually made a page completely dedicated to shaky head fishing at ShakyHeadJig.com so I won’t explain it in detail here. You can visit my other articles for this one.

Top Water Fishing – This tried and true technique requires a floating bait, a rod and real. You generally use a bait that replicates an injured minnow -some of them have propellers that sputter and splash across the top of the water. Buzz baits are also a topwater bait. You can cast and reel at a slow, steady pace or you can cast and reel it in short spurts to further reproduce the effect of an injured fish. The great part about topwater fishing is that when the bass strikes there’s a HUGE splash. It’s really exciting to watch the fish lunge toward the bait.

Either of these styles of fishing should be enjoyable and successful for anyone. There are a lot of articles out there that make both styles sound much more complicated than need be. They are both effective and simple and should be enjoyable to any fisher man. It takes some experimentation to find what you like best and what works for you.

Finding a Good Spot

A completely different aspect of fishing that you must consider is where to fish. Because I don’t know what you have available to you in your area, so I’ll tell you what I look for in a good fishing spot in the waters where I fish.

River fishing for bass is my favorite bass fishing. I’ve fished on big rivers, but enjoy smaller rivers more. Naturally, quiet out of the way places work better than areas with lots of people. It’s generally a good plan to try to look for the spots in the river that aren’t typical. For instance, if you find a big boulder or something blocking the current, you can generally find a nice fishing spot on the downstream side of the boulder because dead bugs and such gather where the current is blocked. Another good idea is to look for a spot where a lot of tree branches overhang the river. Fish gather to eat the bugs that fall out of the trees and they like the shade, especially in hot weather. Downstream of a confluence is also a good place to look for a fishing spot. Fish tend to gather in hopes of getting the extra grub that washes out of the creek, stream or river.

Lake fishing for Bass. Bass fishing from the bank can be very challenging, but not impossible if you have the patients and dedication for it. Look for schools of shad. Anywhere that shad gather, bass will be nearby. An abundance of underwater cover such as logs, rocks or artificial crappie beds are places where bass like to hide out. All fish like cover and quiet little hiding spots and bass are no exception. The challenge to this is that often you get your favorite lures caught in the cover and can’t retrieve them. Boat fishing defiantly has its advantages, but there’s a lot of good fishing to be had without a boat. Of course, if you have one, use it. If you don’t, don’t let that stop you.

That’s it! You’re on the way to the best bass fishing of your life! Fish on!

Ted Thurman has been an avid fisherman throughout his life, and has been involved in several aspects of the fishing industry for the past 10 years (including the research, development and testing of prototypes as well as manufacturing and marketing fishing related products and services). He lives near some of the best fishing lakes in the United States and loves learning new information and educating others about the fishing industry with others who enjoy it.

The bass is one of the most popular fish in North America and this bass fishing guide seeks to help beginners understand how to choose bait for the sport of bass fishing. When it comes to bass fishing, different bait is needed throughout the day to get the best fishing results.

Bass move throughout the day and so at each part of the day – morning, noon and evening – a fisherman will need to adjust his bait accordingly. In the morning buzz baits, spinner baits and plastic worms that stay near the surface are best. During the middle of the day bass go deeper in the water, seeking cover, so the best bait to use at this time is bait that can go deep towards the bottom. A fisherman may consider using a weight to help get the depth. Later in the day the bass move back towards the surface and the same bait used in the morning will work well.

Plastic bait comes in bright colors that attract the fish. Different colors may get a different response in different areas and on different days. There is also natural colored bait, but this bait is usually for those who are more patient, as they do not attract the bass as quickly as the colored bait. The best method of choosing the colors to use is to just give it a try and see what works best.

Bass fishing is most often done with plastic bait, but it is possible to use live bait. With live bait it is generally reasonable to expect that the more bait used the bigger fish that will be caught. Crawfish, shiners, grubs and night crawlers are all good live bait choices for bass fishing.

In general, it is a good idea to seek out the assistance of fellow fishermen to see what’s working on any given day.

When bass fishing is concerned, it is important to understand the habits of the fish. This will help a fisherman choose the best fishing spots and the best bait to use. Having a good understanding of the area can also help and asking fellow fishermen is also a great way to make the fishing experience the best. This bass fishing guide is only a guide to what bait generally works best. Each area will have its own methods that work best, which is why instead of using a bass fishing guide, asking around is always the best method to catching bass.

Whether you are a beginning bass fisherman, or a seasoned bass fishing tournament professional, you need basic fishing tackle for your tackle box.

There are lots of lures that you can use for different lakes and weather and water conditions. However, some lures will work regardless of the weather or water conditions or water temperature.
A crank bait works best when it is deflected off of the bass holding structure. It could be logs, docks, rocks or what ever structure you are fishing. The key is the interrupted action and the deflection caused by hitting the structure. Sometimes a short hesitation after striking the object will help draw strikes. Always vary your retrieve with crank baits until you start getting strikes. Most times a crank and pause retrieve will out fish a straight retrieve. Many good crank bait anglers will fish the lure more with the rod than the reel. They will pull the lure forward by sweeping the rod in stop and go motion and take up line as the rod is moved forward to repeat the process. This method improves the feel of the lure and gives you many options in speed and action of the crank bait.

Most often, even the most tech-minded individual would want to live life in the streams that life comes in hand. Bass fishing report whether you come home with nothing bass on hand, or you are setting up your camera to capture those beautiful moments when you get the best catch.

Bass fish come in different types; these are the largemouth bass, the striped bass, the smallmouth bass and the spotted bass. The striped bass belongs to the species Percicthyidae and it’s other family members include the white perch and the white bass. Striped bass type and the white bass are also referred to as temperate bass types – because they exercise self-control and self restraints.

The fishing of stripped bass can be very different in comparison to that of other common bass types. The essential thing to keep in mind is that each of these fish type calls for a rather different fishing approach to increase the chances of success in bagging them. The best approach to getting is by learn about the fishs itself, its movement and ability to escape a predator.

The smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and the spotted bass types belong to the family of Centrarchidae which include members like the pumpkinseed and the rock bass, and the bluegills. These bass families are also referred to as the warm water bass or in another name the black bass.

The physical characteristics of a smallmouth bass include vertically striped side, greenish brown color. The easiest way to tell the difference between the two is by simply observing their mouth.

If you realize that the upper jawbone of the fish you’ve caught extends past the fish eye, then you’ll know that you have a largemouth bass. But if the type of fish you have caught has a reddish eye color, and an upper jaw bone that stops before the eye, then you have a smallmouth bass in your catch.

Learning about bass fishing baits can be both fun and rewarding, not to mention highly educational. In order to understand bass fishing baits, we need to take a look at bass fishing itself and how it has become a competitive sport in North America and around the world. Its popularity is exploding with several fishing shows and contests giving away large sums of money for the biggest fish.

Bass Fishing

Bass fishing originated most likely in the Southern United States where bass was caught for food. It has since developed into a sport and a multi-million dollar one at that. The development of all sorts of fishing gear from equipment to rods to boats to reels and lines has helped turn the bass fishing industry into a blockbuster. Competitive bass fishing actually generates almost two billion dollars a year.

Nobody fishes for bass for food anymore in most circles; it is almost entirely a sport that involves “catch and release”, meaning the fish is simply let go after it is caught and probably photographed and measured for contest purposes and sport purposes. Competition is the driving force of bass fishing now, so finding bigger and better fish is a craze that keeps many bass fishermen and anglers up all night.

Bass Fishing Baits

There are many bass fishing baits available to use. Bass prefer warmer waters, so finding bait that works with the temperature of the water is important. Use colourful lures and other tools to attract the bass and talk to other fishermen about their secrets. It never hurts to try new things, either. A friend of mine swears by peanut butter on his hook to capture some of the biggest bass in existence while others prefer traditional attractive lures that are small enough to resemble the size of the bass’ main sources of food: the crawdad.

There are many anglers that swear by a so-called “million dollar bait” for bass fishing. This is known as the “JIG and PIG” baiting system. It involves using very specific measurement and proper luring techniques to catch some of the biggest fish around. It isn’t called the million dollar bait because it costs a million dollars but rather because many first prize fisherman have used it to great success.

There are other bass fishing baits that work just the same, and once again finding the best combination of bait and lure tying is a matter of practice and hard work out on the lake. Persistence is key with fishing, and patience is a virtue.

The first and most important thing you need to know about the bass fishing secret is that there is no real secret for catching bass or any other kind of fish for that matter. The only bass fishing secret is that there really isn’t any.

First things First

It’s important to know what kind of bass you are fishing for. There are several different kinds of bass for example there is the large mouth bass, the small mouth bass, the white bass, fresh water bass and so on. Once you have figured out which bass you are fishing for then you can move on to the bass fishing secret bait.

For this article I will be fishing for the most common bass, the big mouth bass. The bass fishing secret for the big mouth is to know what it eats in its natural habitat. That may seem like a difficult question to ask yourself but the answer is fairly simple, the big mouth eats everything from flies to small birds; basically if it hits the water the big mouth will eat it.

The type of bait you use depends on the angler, if you like to use real bait then night crawlers are exceptional for bass but if you prefer artificial bait then I would recommend using plastic worms with a Texas rig. I have found this to work well for me.

Now What?

Now that you have figured out what kind of bass you are fishing for and what kind of bait you want to use lets move on. The next bass fishing secret would be where to go to catch a big mouth bass. You can go just about anywhere to catch a big mouth. You can go to a stream, pond, river or lake.

Where ever you go big mouth bass are usually found near shore under brush (fallen trees and/or limbs) or near rocks. Very rarely are they found in the middle of the lake. Another bass fishing secret that is good know is when the best time of the year to catch bass is. You can catch big mouth any time of the year, spring, summer, winter, fall it really doesn’t matter; it all depends on what the angler prefers.

I prefer the fall because the bass are eating everything they can to fatten up for the long winter. However if you don’t live in a state where the lakes freeze over then I believe the best time to fish is late summer after spawning is over.

That’s about it.

Now that you know what a bass fishing secret, find out what works for you because the best bass fishing secret is the one you keep.

Bass fishing with topwater baits is without a doubt the most fun you can have fishing for large or smallmouth bass. People watch these bass tournaments on the tube and see all these pros using plastic and spinner baits jigs and crankbaits, forget about the fun and excitement you get with topwater baits. Topwater baits create great action and stories to pass on to family and fishing friends.

The best time I find for topwater bass fishing is in summer, the colder the water the slower the response, and the more you have to work that bait. Early morning and evening are best for topwater bass fishing.

Of course weather effects your choice of lures also, on a bright sunny day it is better to have a light wind to go with it, a bit of a chop makes the bass less spooky. On a calm sunny day use a heavier lure and lighter line for longer casts. Bass tend to become real spooky in calm and clear water, so the further the cast from you the better off you’ll be.

Wind can also change the type of topwater bait you can use I believe that when the wind comes up you should use a smaller bait that makes a lot of noise. The larger baits just plow through the chop, while the smaller baits ride the chop and still make that enticing noise to get the strike you want. Also try to fish through the troughs created by the wind.

Bass fishing topwater baits has some of it’s own quirks you want to be able to make pinpoint casts to cover areas and make a clear retrieve. Most of your topwater bass fishing will be done in shallow water over weed beds, flats and around objects and shoreline cover. The majority of bass population remains in shallow water all summer.

To fish bass with topwater baits cast about a foot or two past your target and bring it as close to the cover as possible. If you do not get a strike after the first few feet reel in and try again and make another cast. Fishing cover like this there is no need to reel the bait all the way to the boat. Work the bait slowly to get that strike from the bass that is hiding in the shadows and under cover. Have patience when fishing topwater baits, let the ripples disapear, and let the bait sit a few seconds before you make you retrieve.

When the bass strikes a topwater bait, wait till you feel the fish before you set the hook. If you try to set that hook when you first see the strike you’ll miss more than you will catch. I can’t count the times that lure has been nocked back towards me by the bass striking that topwater bait.

Now for some of the most popular baits, Poppers are among the oldest of topwater bass fishing lures. They have the dished out face with the line tie in the middle. When retrieved they make a slash noise or “bloop” when popped. Poppers work best in warm, calm, shallow, clear water. You get your action from the rod tip not reeling. The harder you snap the bait the more noise and commotion created.

Stickbaits are rounded, hot-dog shaped lures usually plastic or wood. weighted to float nose up. The only action they have is what the angler ads to make them work. These baits have appeal for big bass, just using the jerk, then real up slack and jerking again produces a good eratic side to side motion that gets lots of attention from bass.

Propbaits are cigar shaped and fitted with propellers on one or both ends. Propbaits can be worked fast or slow, quiet or loud, but stop and go retrieves are best. The bass will let you know what is best so vary your retrieve. Be sure to experiment, propbaits are dynamite around sunken logs, lily pads, and shallow cover. Be sure the blades on the lure run freely,

Wobblers and Crawlers, these baits are particularly best at night or early morning, Examples of these are the Jitterbug or the Crazy Crawler. They make a loud plopping sound when retrieved steadily. Use a steady slow retrieve for the best results with this bass bait.

Buzzbaits are a little like spinnerbaits desingned to be fished on the surface. There are two types, the opposite wire types, with the blade above the hook, and the inline type with everything on one shaft. Excellent for clear water, and pick up less weeds. Again experiment with your working of this bait, twitching and vary speeds to create different noises.

Weedless Spoons are also in this category, designed to be fished in dense cover, either through the thickest weeds, lily pads, or grass. They go through the toughest cover you can find. Fishing with weedless spoons for bass you will want to be using heavy fishing tackle, rods and reels. I like to point my rod tip at the lure on my retrieve, and again here be patient and allow the bass to take the lure.

In the fishing world largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are two of the more highly coveted fish individuals love to catch. Those who express an interest in fishing for bass tend to know all there is to know not only about catching this underwater marvel but their individual habitat as well.

For those who may not be quite as versed with regard to bass fishing or even those fishermen who would like to brush up on their bass knowledge, the following paragraphs will highlight some interesting information regarding largemouth bass and smallmouth bass as well as fishing for these species.

Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass spend most of their time in lakes and rivers where fresh water is plentiful. They tend to congregate in mossy, sheltered areas where smaller fish, such as minnows, provide a meal for them to snack on at their leisure. The size of the bass tends to vary depending on the fish itself although estimations can be given as to their size. Smallmouth bass can be approximately 8-15 inches long and weigh around 4 lbs. or so. As for largemouth bass, these fish tend to be around 1-2 lbs. and have a length similar to the average of the smallmouth bass.

There are certain tricks of the fishing trade which help bass fishermen catch the most bass possible. The best time to fish for bass is May through July as it will yield the best possible catches for bass fishermen. As for favored bait, items such as minnows, crayfish, nightcrawlers, jigs, crankbaits and spinnerbaits all attract both types of bass. Both live bait and artificial lures will attract the largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. It is important to note that one may be better able to catch smallmouth bass as opposed to largemouth bass as the smallmouth bass have a more unique curiosity when it comes to their attraction to bait and lures.

With regard to the best time of day to catch bass, it is best to head out to the lake or river throughout the summertime around early morning or late evening into nighttime, as the bass tend to take shelter from the sun during the day. They are more active when the climate is cooler and the sun is not as bright.

Bass fishing, whether for largemouth or smallmouth bass, is an exciting pastime which yields many fortuitous results. By following the aforementioned tips, one may be that much luckier when it comes to reeling in the best catch.

There is a website that has great information on most species of freshwater fish. It has details that pertain to each species of fish such as habitat, spawning, eating habits, the best lures and baits and more, the website is called: Fishing Stringer, and can be found at this url:

When watching fishing tournaments on television many would-be professional anglers want to know the bass fishing secrets used by those who are paid to fish. From the time a person latches onto a largemouth lunker, they are hooked, unlike the ones that they believe are passing up their offering, because they don’t know the bass fishing secrets they need to consistently land the big ones.

The reality is, there really aren’t any deep dark bass fishing secrets, it is knowing and using the four rights of fishing that separate the professionals from the weekend wannabes. The first thing bass-catcher hopefuls need to know is the habits of the fish they are trying to catch. Knowing their habitat and meal times, plus the type of food they are probably looking for at a given time of day is one of the bass fishing secrets that help pile the pounds onto the daily catch.

Trees, docks, creeks and channels all are good hiding places for bass, and fishing all angles of these areas can lure the fish out of hiding. Once the likes and dislikes of the bass are understood, there are four things that have to be right in order to become a successful bass angler. Knowing a few bass fishing secrets will help land more fish, but it will take lots of fishing practice to join the pro tour.

Four Rights Of Successful Bass Fishing

While some may consider these right as no-brainers, thinking back on the last few times the bass were left in the water at the end of the day, try to remember which of these items were ignored. The right bait, presented in the right manner, in the right location at the right time of day are essentially all the bass fishing secrets needed. Of course, flipping and working the bait will play into attracting the big fish, but no matter how well you work the bait, if the four rights of bass fishing are wrong, the fish won’t leave the water.

Many believe the spinner baits are the gold standard for bass fishing and they will work well in many locations, on the lake, in rivers and streams, but there have been some large fish pulled in with fly equipment and live bait as well. Crank baits work for many anglers, but regardless of the bait, if the water isn’t right and the bait is in the wrong area of the lake, river or stream all the bass fishing secrets in the world will not help the fish find a new home.

If you are heading to Ohio for some bass fishing, you will want to check a few places that are well known for smallmouth bass. Lake Erie of course is a great place to fish, but there are the Knox Lake, Lake La Su An, Turkeyfoot Lake, Tycoon Lake, Acton Lake and Ross Lake. Lake Erie of course is one of the best places to go fishing for bass. You can find the bass around Kelly’s Island. You can also fish around Cranberry Creek, Camp Perry and around the shorelines by Cedar Point and Portage River as well as Sandusky Bay. The smallmouth bass fishing at it best in spring, summer and fall.

Knox Lake is great for largemouth bass fishing. They do have a eighteen inch length requirement, but it is easy to catch bass above this length. When you fish in the upper part of the lake where there are brush and trees in the waters, you will find that catching the bass is easy. A crankbait will work well in this area and you will not need to get to wet because you can cast right from shore. The fishing is pretty good and the population of bass is high in Knox Lake.

Lake La Su An is a full of largemouth bass. Many anglers have said that it is easy to see as many as sixty largemouth bass coming out of the lake a day. The bass population is so high that this lake will never be without bass and does not need any restrictions. The easiest way to catch a bass on this lake is with a nightcrawler off the shores. They are found is large schools all over the lake, but if you do not have a boat, you can fish the shores and make your catches easily.

Turkeyfoot Lake is rated for bass of more than fifteen inches and weighting about three to four pounds. They have said that using a topwater lure is the best way to catch a bass on Turkeyfoot Lake. The depth of the late is fifty-two feet at maximum. Of course, another good fishing spot nearby is Long Lake where the bass tend to be near the shores and weedy areas. The Ohio lakes and rivers are exceptional for bass fishing all year. One can fish anytime of the day and never leave without a fish for dinner.

Tycoon Lake is most common for the early season bass fishing. The water tends to warm quickly because it is so shallow and smaller in size. The bass population is heavy because of the minimum length requirement, which is eighteen inches. This means that the bass are nice sized and weigh about three pounds. It is not unusual to see a few seven-pound bass come out of Tycoon Lake. The anglers have been using the nightcrawler to hook the bass. Fishing from shore is just as easy as fishing from a small boat. Wading is done more so because the water is shallower is some parts.

There are many great fishing opportunities available in these waters and if you have the chance to enjoy some of it, you really don’t want to let it pass you by.

Best Locations for Ohio Bass Fishing

Ohio is full of many lakes and ponds that provide excellent bass fishing opportunities. You can pick up a map of the lakes and rivers in Ohio that can provide you with some information on the fishing opportunities to find out which areas are considered to be the best when it comes to bass fishing. These can be found at many local bait shops and stateparks. You can also use the internet to learn about the different bass fishing locations in Ohio so you will have an idea of where you can go.

Here are some of the Lakes in Ohio where bass fishing is considered to be
excellent.
Buckeye Lake
Lake Hope
Knox Lake
Hargus Lake
Seneca Lake
Harrison Lake
Burr Oak Lake
Lake Erie

These are a few of the lakes that are found in Ohio that provide great opportunities for bass fishing. The Ohio River is also an excellent place to catch bass and there are other rivers and lakes available as well.

Tips on Catching Bass in Ohio

Bass love to stay around structures like rocks, stumps, sunken trees and weedy areas. They like the cover these structures provide and they are naturally drawn to these areas of the water. The bass fishing is best when the water temperature is above fifty degrees and below eighty degrees. The largemouth bass is the largest species of bass and can grow up to twenty pounds. The average weight for the other species of bass is around four to five pounds.

Bass eat a variety of foods that includes frogs, smaller fish and tadpoles.
These are great baits to use when you go bass fishing but considering they will strike at just about anything that moves, artificial lures will work very well to. Metallic spinners and lures that are designed from bright colors will attract their attention and draw them in your direction. Weedless lures are recommended as they will not get tangled up as much so you will not lose as many.

Bass fishing in the United States has a rather interesting history – instead of being influenced or derived from the European sport, US bass fishing has developed mainly on its own. In fact, Europeans – especially the British sea bass fishermen – have actually adapted many US freshwater fishing techniques to improve their own performance.

Bass fishing first for sport first became popular in the early 1800s. While many sport fishermen sought out trout and salmon, it was the sustenance fishermen – those fishing to eat or to sell their catches at market – who caught bass. They used poles and live bait, and it was these fishermen who “invented” the sport of bass fishing. In fact, most of the terms, concepts, and literature of today’s bass fishermen have their roots in this historical form of bass fishing.

Artificial lures first became available in the mid 1800s as the sport of bass fishing evolved. While the first artificial lures developed were used for trout and salmon, fly patterns specifically aimed at bass were soon developed. These lures were heavier and built to be used with fixed-spool casting rods. These artificial lures were updated even more in the late 1800s as poppers and other types of floating lures were first developed.

Another major development in the sport of bass fishing was the expansion of the US railroad system to cover a larger portion of the country in the 19th century. This newfound mobility not only allowed humans to cross the US more quickly, but also led to new types of bass being shipped across the states. Fishermen discovered that bass were capable of surviving in barrels, making them the perfect fish to transport on trains. Largemouth bass were stocked in the many artificial lakes and ponds created by the dams that were built to provide water for the trains’ steam engines, while smallmouth bass were released in rivers from states in New England all the way to California.

From 1890-1895, the US Department of Agriculture actually suggested farmers stock their ponds with largemouth bass as a means of sustenance and economic incentive. The department even assisted some farmers with constructing their farm ponds, bringing these bass to new areas around the country. Following World War II, fishing became even more popular, leading to the first large-scale bass fisheries. Even the introduction of fishing licenses and fees for them did not discourage bass fishers – especially in the south where the largemouth bass multiplied quickly in waters that were simply too warm for other game fish.

Another cause of an increased interest in bass fishing occurred in the east. Many rivers had been dammed up due to industrialization, which caused their waters to become polluted or warmer than usual, killing off a large number of trout. With waters too warm for most game fish, smallmouth bass were brought to the rivers as a replacement. While the pollution did cause a decrease in the smallmouth bass population over the years, improvements in water regulations have seen the smallmouth bass regain their popularity and their large numbers today.

The 20th century has witnessed the creation of specific bass fishing rods, reels, and other tools to assist fishermen in their quest to capture bass. These advances have continued to modern times, keeping fishing for bass of all types a popular sport for fishermen across the country.

Fishing in Florida is easy, exciting and fun because there are so many productive places to fish in the state, it’s not stretching the truth to say if you see some water and it’s more than a few inches deep, there’s probably fish to be caught. Pair this with the fantastic weather Central Florida has and you’ve got heaven on earth for many Bass fishermen. You can virtually go bass fishing everyday.

You can fish everyday of the year, that adds to the attraction as a fishing Mecca. Your chances of catching what you want do vary with the time of the year. But with the temperature and weather barely fluctuating and changes are at a minimum, it is not unlikely to catch a fish even when out of season.

The largemouth bass is the best known and most popular freshwater game fish in Florida. Found statewide, largemouth bass have rapid growth rates. Historically known for huge bass, Florida remains an outstanding destination to catch a trophy Bass.

Central Florida offers not only Lake Toho which is the most popular lake of the Kissimmee Chain, but the fame Stick Marsh-Farm 13 fishery as well as the trophy bass lake Walk in water. Lake Toho is relatively shallow 18,800 acre lake that is covered with various types of aquatic vegetation. The most abundant is the massive hydraulic beds that can be found growing to the surface in up to 12 feet of water.

For Florida bass fishing, bream fishing, or anything in between, Bass World Lodge is the place to be. Their location on the St. Johns River in Georgetown, Florida gives us quick access to some of the most lucrative Florida bass fishing and bream fishing grounds in the United States. Bass World Lodge offers professional guide services, spacious cabins, and fully stocked bait and tackle shops, as well as bass and pontoon boat rentals.

Lake Toho is a lake that faces North/South, the lake is approximately 9 miles long and only a couple miles wide

Similar to most of the Florida lakes medium to large Wild Shiners are the best producers for trophy fish. However, many lurkers are taken on soft plastics, Carolina rigs; Rat’s Traps, crank baits, soft plastic jerk baits, and suspending hard plastic jerk baits are one of the favorites of the local fishermen.

The Seminole Indian name Okeechobee actually means big water, an appropriate title for the largest freshwater lake in the United States occurring entirely in one state. The lake is approximately 37 miles long by 30 miles wide (448,000 acres, 700 square miles) with an average depth of almost 10 feet. To fishermen nation wide, Okeechobee is renowned for the sheer numbers of bass it contains per acre and the fact that it produces more Florida trophy bass over 8 pounds than any lake in Florida and the United States.

Because the river flows north, the upper basin is the area to the south that forms its marshy headwaters. The middle basin is the area in central Florida where the river widens forming lakes Harney, Jessup. Monroe and George. The lower basin is the area in Northeast Florida from Putnam County to the river’s mouth in Duval County.

The source of the river, or headwaters, is a large marshy area in Indian River County. It flows north and turns eastward at Jacksonville to its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean

The total drop of the river from its source in swamps south of Melbourne to its mouth in the Atlantic near Jacksonville is less than 30 feet, or about one inch per mile, making it one of the “laziest” rivers in the world. Because the river flows slowly, it is difficult to flush pollutants.

For example, the water color in the Harris Chain is much stained. This is a blessing as most bass in these lakes are shallow and hold close to cover. Noisy lures are effective and multiple presentations to the same spot are required to get the fish’s attention.

The biggest problem most fisherman encounter when fishing in the Harris Chain for the first time is purely mental. Coming from other areas of the state or country, they look at the pea-soup water color and get the impression that these lakes are fishless. This is a shame as they are missing out on some great action if they only knew more about fishing under these conditions. Never underestimate Florida Bass Fishing; it is a well kept open secret that many fishermen have failed to discover.

The method of catch and release was introduced in the 1950s. And was designed to cut down the cost of restocking hatchery-raised fish, it was normally used on fished not meant for direct use. Popular accord does not consider bass as a food fish, and thus this practice is widely used.

Bass is the most popular large mouth fish in America. Anglers take to bass fishing to participate in tournaments and as recreational fishing too. They can fish for bass either from the shore or from a boat. If you are participating in a tournament you will need a lot of equipment. Some of the equipment that you will require to participate in a tournament is a heavy line, at least 2 hook lines which should be between ten to fifty pound tested ones, and three rods.

1. The best bait to get a good catch
Different kinds of baits should be used during different times of the day. Spinner baits and buzz baits should be used in the morning, and this should have the fish swirling round the bait. In case this does not happen and you do not make a catch, you could use plastic worms as bait in the same location.

During the midday sun you could use spinner baits or crank baits which will attract the fish at this time. If you want to bait fish in the afternoon you should use grubs, small fish, frogs, crawfish, lizards and worms which will attract the fish.

2. What is a Bass fish
The web describes the bass as a fish from North America. There are three categories of black bass: Micrpterus Punctatus which is the Kentucky Bass, Micropterus Dololomieui or the small mouth bass and Micropterus Salmoides which is the large mouth bass. The bass belongs to the family of the sunfish. This fish is extremely popular in the United States and is the second preferred fish for hunting.

3. The features of bass fish
Strong fighters, the Black Bass fish are seen as a challenge to bait. Those who have caught bass fish as a sport, keep coming back for more, to test their skills. These fish are found in roadside ditches, creeks, streams, rivers, ponds, reservoirs and in most lakes. The large bass fish give a tough time to the angler and resist being hooked, where as the small bass jump up and put up an aggressive fight on the surface when they are being hooked.

4. Tournaments for bass fishing
A popular sport in the United States, bass fishing has two major tournaments. One competition is called the Bass master Tournament Trail, and has 12 events with 50 anglers competing in this tournament. $500,000 is the prize amount for this tournament. Wal-Mart FLW Tour which is the other competition has a prize amount of $1,000,000.

Bass fishing is a very well liked sport and the catch ends up being served at the dinner table, but many anglers are now following the method of catching and releasing now.

Recent years have seen an explosion of interest in Bass fishing and this has led to many new business sprouting up to ride along with the wave of excitement. Hooking, pardon the pun, new Bass anglers is easy. All you have to do is to invite them for a Bass fishing trip and before you know it, they are now passionate about the sport. Businesses seek out hot interests like a heat seeking missle and we see resorts, sports gears and fishing related things being built – all with the aim to capture this hot market. As a Bass angler, clearly we have benefited from all these interests.

Right now, more and more are getting their feet wet to learn and find out what the big bass buzz is all about. For the uninitiated, Bass fishing is more than just fishing. Having a prized big bass in your hands and the opportunity to show it off is a feeling that is hard to describe. Only those who have done it will know the feeling and once you have done it once, you want to do it over and over again. But after the first bass fishing expedition, for the beginner, there is still lots more to learn.

First, you have to know the lures that you must have to enjoy bass fishing.

What the top 3 lures for catching Bass? No real surveys have been conducted but it is generally agreed by pro bass fishermen that plastic worms makes the best lures, followed by the spinner bait and then the crank bait.

After considering the lures, there are still other factors to consider, chief of which is how you intend to cover the waters

in your fishing. Do you want to cover a smaller segment of water thoroughly or do you want to skim across a larger area as quickly as possible to find fishg. Worm baits are very effective and Bass are absolutely seduced by it. However, worm baits tend to be slower and are best in certain areas which will come with experience.

One main problem with learners fishing with a worm is that they do not realise that the worm does not have the ability to sense strikes. And the main reason for the inability to sense them is due to the fisherman using a sinker that is too heavy and a line that is too thick.

To overcome this predicament, a variable buoyancy worm using lead strip sinkers can be adopted. The advantages are:

•	No moving lead on the line to dampen the feel of a gentle pickup
•	Precise amount of lead can be applied to deliver the worm action needed
•	Bass finds it easier to inhale the worm
•	It helps in hook setting
•	In snags, you can quickly shake yourself loose
•	Worms can be hung virtually suspended over the bottom when fishing in shallow water.

To tell how much lead strip is needed, wrap one strip around the hook and bury the barb in the worm. Ease it into the water

and watch it sink, it should barely settle toward the bottom. If it sinks to fast, take some off, etc. Make sure to use no heavier than 8-pound mono line – preferably 6 pound.

How much lead strip do you need? Well, one tested way is to wrap one strip around the hook and bury the barb in the worm.

Now, gently ease it into the water and watch it sink. It should barely settle toward the bottom. If it sinks too fast, start

again by taking some off, etc. Use a mono line that is no heavier than 8-pounds – preferably 6 pound.

Spinner baits, by virture of its construction, can move more quickly across the surface. It can be bounced on the bottom,

against tree limbs and moved in many different ways in order to stimulate strikes. It is a great probing lure for the shoreline because of its tangle-free construction.

Lastly, Crank baits are great if you want to check out a spot without wasting too much time. They cover a lot of water in a hurrry and you can use them for locating fish that may be scattered.

The most important rule is this – make it easy for the Bass to get to the lure – no matter where you are fishing in. Drop that lure right in front of them! Scientists have proven that Bass can calculate the amount of energy it will take them to go after the prey and if they decide its too much effort, they won’t bother.

The bottom line is this – discover and learn to use each type of lures and find what suits you. Once you find the right one for you, you will really find enjoyment in bass fishing!

Aside from considering the lures, the other important factor is to know the accurate time in going for bass fishing.

The Biggest Bass are definitely caught at dawn or dusk. Remember – bass love to prey at ambush spots, which seems to offer lots of cover for the baitfish. They like to hide, and then pounce on their prey.

These bait fish are most active in the dusk or dawn. When they feeding, the bait fish’s guard is down and less aware of threats, So that is when the bass strikes. Fish during these times for the best chances of success.

When retrieving an underwater lure in poor light conditions, pull in the lure at a steady pace once it is set in motion. This makes it easier for bass to locate and grab it.

Although I mentioned that dawn or dusk is the best time to fish for bass, there is one exception. Don’t bother trying when

the water is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature causes certain aquatics species to disappear, which in turn, nullifies the food chain feeding.

Just by keeping these 2 factors in mind for bass fishing – lures and the time to fish – you are on your start to winning the

game of bass fishing. Once mastered, you can then consider other factors like water quality and weather conditions. Happy Bass fishing!

One of the best bass fishing techniques would have to be splitshotting. This can make all the difference between a successful days fishing or sitting twiddling your thumbs all day.

Without doubt you should take the time to practice this bass fishing technique and not only will it make your a better bass fisher but it will give you more enjoyment when your out fishing during the cold winter months.

If you desire to master bass fishing then this is a technique that you must learn.

If you do decide to put the effort in you will learn very quickly how to master the art of the fall and winter bass fishing. By taking the time to learn techniques you will be rewarded with exceptional smallmouth bass.

A fact that you must remember is that it takes a smallmouth bass about eight to ten years to gain a weight in excess of five lbs. To make sure you preserve the smallmouth bass you should always practice responsible catch and released techniques.

The cold weather will always put bass fish into their winter patterns. You will need to forget all about spinner baits, rips baits and crank baits. The time will have come to break out all the finesse gear. And as mentioned earlier, one of the most successful bass fishing techniques to get the bass to bite during the colder months is splitshotting.

It is quite a simple technique to master and will not require you to invest much in termainal tackle.

One of the hardest things to teach an angle in learning the splitshot bass fishing technique is being able to teach them how to detect the bite. The bite will always vary depending on the activity level of the fish.

Sometimes the bass fish will pop the bait hard and it will be easy to tell when they bite but then on other occasions there will quick tick and then nothing after that.

And last but not least there is the pressure bite which is dreaded by many fishermen.

The pressure generally takes 2 forms

The first way to describe a pressure bite is you will feel a slight resistance to pulling your line forward. This is somewhat like hooking a soft, spongy rubber band. The second pressure bite is when you lose contact with the bottom.

A bass has picked up your lure and is just following along with your forward movement. This is why it is so important to maintain bottom contact. Once you realize that you’ve lost the feel of the weight against the bottom, and your depth hasn’t changed significantly, you have to put two and two together and get ready to set the hook.

The preferred hook set for this technique is called a sweep set. Once you have detected a fish holding your bait drop the rod tip towards the fish, reel down to the point of feeling resistance (or just shy of that point) and ’sweep’ the rod horizontally away from the fish.

If the rod loads up good and you’re sure that you’ve got the hook in the fish just fight him to the boat. If you set the hook and it didn’t feel solid you may want to set the hook a second time. The drag on your reel should be set tight enough that it doesn’t give on the initial hook set. But it shouldn’t be set so tight that a larger fish can’t take the line if needed.

When fishing for bass the best spots will never be in weeds or cover, this is why you should always use weed less lures whenever possible. This will help to save you money as you will not lose as many lures.

Bass fish do exist in a variety of different temperatures but the do tend to be less frequent on the cold front. Fish will always tend to swim deeper during the sunniest time of day. Sun does seems to effect bass fishing in a negative way. Try to seek out the more shady spots or areas with deeper water and cover.

Then if you are fishing on a overcast day you should try and find shallower water. When in cold waters you should reel in your bait much slower and fish generally tend to react much slower in colder temperatures.

Another popular technique that is used by many angles is the freshwater fish identification. This is handy knowledge to know if you ever find yourself watching bass fishing pro or listening to commentary during a fishing program you will know they are speaking the truth.

To become a great angler you will need to learn many bass fishing techniques. Remember to practice each one often and you will find yourself getting better and better.

If you are looking for a wonderful recreational sport that will take you far away from your comfort zone, look no further than bass fishing. The sport of bass fishing has quickly risen into the ranks of a multi billion dollar industry. This fishing sport has acquired a great following throughout the years and is now one of the most popular sports in America.

This fact is no accident. While bass fishing is done all around the world, its popularity in America stems from the fact that the most popular types of bass fished for sport can be found in multitudes in the waters of North America. Bass fishing in America is so popular that bass fishing masters have become household names among American sports enthusiasts.

Perhaps it is the lure of going back to basics and getting in touch with man’s hunting urges in nature that lures millions upon millions of individuals to this wonderful world of bass fishing for sport and recreation. If you are new to this sport or if you are only beginning to think about taking up this hobby, the whole concept of fishing may be a little daunting.

Fortunately, what general knowledge we all have on fishing, applies for the sport of bass fishing. The exciting task of catching bass is done with a hook line and sinker. If you are looking for bass fishing techniques, look no further than that.

Of course if you are a bass fishing enthusiast looking to improve your performance in the sport, you will be looking for bass fishing techniques but really, bass fishing is quite simple. First, this is so because bass fish are bountiful in certain waters, especially in North America so you can be sure that if you head on out to bass filled waters you are sure to catch a few. What counts of course is to catch bass fish of a certain size and weight. In this regard, the bass fishing technique to utilize is common sense. First of all, make sure that your fishing equipment is suitable for the type and size of bass you are hoping to catch.

Remember also that bass fish particularly the big mouth and small mouth are feisty fish that serve the purpose of wonderful gaming fish. The large mouth bass is highly resistant to captivity and once hooked, you may have a hard time reeling it in because it will tend to hide behind submerged structures such as logs and seaweed to avoid being caught. The small mouth on the other hand is known to be jumpy once it hits the surface to be able to escape the grip of the hook. This is where your bass fishing technique of reeling the game in will come in handy.

Also, because bass is a feisty fish resistant to capture, anglers are used. Anglers is the term for angled hooks used to catch the fish. There are several types of bait you can use, depending on your own preferences and bass fishing techniques. You may opt to use live or artificial bait and both actually work fine. Some artificial baits work better than the others and to find out which ones are more effective, you can read up on user reviews from bass fishing forums or ask your trusted fishing buddies for their recommendations. Of course, nothing beats the learning from actual experience so don’t be shy, get out there and compile your very own bass fishing techniques.

Tennessee Bass fishing is going to be its best this year at Dale Hollow, Tims Ford, South Holston and Pickwick reservoirs. The smallmouth bass fishing at Dale Hollow is going to provide some high catch rates and some fine fish. There are some regulations in place for smallmouth bass fishing, but this has resulted in some nice trophy size fish.

Anglers have said that fishing at night with jigs and spinnerbaits is the best time to catch smallmouth bass. You get away with using a four-pound test line and catch some nice sized fish. It is all of the presentation at Dale Hollow.

South Holston Lake is like a small, Dale Hollow. During the winter, you can catch a smallmouth bass on a float-n-fly or a jigging spoon. It is not unusual to catch a fish over twenty-five pounds of this lake. Ifyou are fishing this lake at night, you can use to grub and jig to catch plenty of bass. Tims Ford and Pickwick are coming along just nicely for smallmouth bass fishing. They do have regulations for minimum size, but it is working very well. These are just a few places in Tennessee that bass fishing is excellent for the most part. You can go just about anywhere in Tennessee and have some great fishing.

A couple other ones that you might consider are Percy Priest, Center Hill, and Norris and Watts Bar lakes. Although the smallmouths are declining in these areas, it still provides great fishing. These areas are still working with the 18-inch minimum size limit for smallmouth bass, which has started to improve the fishing conditions.

If you want to do some river fishing in Tennessee for smallmouth bass, you might try the Frank Fiss, the Pigeon River, Duck River or the Buffalo River. Although the pigeon River seems to be little down again this year, the Duck River is going to show some good numbers.

The Buffalo River on the other hand, is going to be a great place to find smallmouth bass, but you will see a lot of traffic as well. One popular river is the Little Pigeon River, which is starting to make a name for itself. You can catch some good size smallmouth bass down by the area of the French Broad River. However, if you want a wade in some water, you can go up by the Pigeon Forge.

To recap these places, the Little Pigeon River, has good fishing around the Pigeon Forge. The Buffalo River has a great fishing near Linden. The Pigeon River has great bass fishing by the French Broad River. The marina by Tims Ford Lake is a great place to start some smallmouth bass fishing. The smallmouth bass in Norris Lake is good around the Hickory Star Marina. Fishing at Dale Hollow Lake is good around Horse Creek Dock. With all these places to go fishing in Tennessee you cannot go wrong. You are going to have a great time fishing for smallmouth mouth bass.

If you are looking for some largemouth bass in Tennessee, you can look around Cumberland and Obey. The fishing for largemouth bass on Obey River is the best by the dam located by Dale Hollow. This area is great between June and September. One place to start is the Franklin Creek area. Identify the largemouth bass near the channel drops, and by the weed beds. You will find the larger fish, right after sun up by the shade areas on the water. Just use a green, black and blue or a brown jig with your favorite bait, and you are ready to go.

If you have an overcast day, use a spinnerbait near the tree trunks or the timber of the water. You will find a good fishing in these areas. Keep in mind that the color of spinnerbait you use is going to depend on the water conditions. Obey River is a great place to fish for bass. The Cumberland River has some nice size largemouth bass between the Cordell Hall and Old Hickory Lakes by Nashville.

During the summer months on the Cumberland River, you can use the black and blue jig, but make sure it is at least three fourths ounce or heavier in weight. In these areas you need to get down into the deep weeds. If you see a lot of wood in the water, this is where you want to drop your bait.

If you live in Tennessee or you are planning a fishing trip to Tennessee, these are some of the popular places for largemouth and smallmouth bass. The thing is that it is not going to take a lot of skill, only patients to catch these fish. However, once you find the right spot you are going to want to stay there and catch all the fish.

Bass fishing has come a long way from being a nonchalant hobby to becoming a serious sport with different competitions held worldwide. The unique challenges created from bass fishing has helped to promote its popularity as a sport, resulting even in specialty baits, rods, clothing lines, and even boats. The sport is growing at a fascinating rate with millions being drawn in every year. The various types of bass fish that you can catch include small mouth bass, striped bass, spotted bass and largemouth bass. Out of these, the largemouth bass is the biggest one weighting over 10 pounds. Catching one is considered to be a stiff challenge as they do throw up an incredible fight when caught.

Many different states have different laws and regulations with respect to bass fishing. Most states employ the release as you catch rule according to which an angler is required to throw the bass as soon as it is caught so that there is an abundant supply of bass fish in the fishing area. For a beginner, going through the rules and regulations of the area makes great sense as you would not want to risk having your license revoked due to some misunderstanding or other.

As a bass fishing beginner, it would be great to kick-start your bass fishing adventure by fishing on smaller ponds or shorelines of lakes. These places have abundant supply of white and spotted brass and catching them should not pose much of a challenge.

There are three major types of bass fishing with the primary one being live bait fishing. In this form of bass fishing, live bait such as a worm or a shad is used to entice the bass. However, one needs to ensure that these baits are not dead beforehand as that would not be likely to attract any fish to your hook. Another form of fishing which is commonly used is Spinner Fishing. This method involves the uses of lures at dawn or late at night. However, this technique is restricted to only experienced bass fisherman, as finding the right type at the right fishing spot takes a lot of practice and skill.

Plugs are another type of bass lure and there are many different types used for plug fishing. While some of them are used for catching fish on the surface, most of them find use in catching deep swimming bass. Because bass are predators and eat their prey alive, using plugs results in great results as they do sound life-like thereby enticing bass fish into falling for the bait.

Bass fishing has grown in popularity and there are many competitions just for catching bass. The two major bass fishing competitions in the United States are the Bassmaster Tournament Trail and the Wal-Mart FLW Tour which offer prize money to the tune of $500,000 and $1,000,000, respectively. With so much at stake for a fun filled hobby, expect more and more people to tune into this wonderful recreational activity in the future.

Spring bass fishing lures millions of anglers each year. Warm weather signals fishermen to grab their gear, hook up their boats and head to their favorite lake. Bass fishing is indeed an extremely popular sport. This is indicated by the scene on a boat ramp at first light on a warm spring Saturday.

Before You Go To the Lake

If you have not been on the water since last season, invest in a few dollars on a pair of “ear muffs” for your motor, and test it before you leave your house.Make sure that your motor is working properly and starts quickly. Don’t wait until you are backed into the water only to find out that your motor wont’ start.

If you have started your boat at home but find that it wont’ start when you get to the lake, quickly check the following:

•	Did the kill switch get pulled accidentally? •	Battery connections; these sometimes loosen due to vibration from traveling.

Before You Get In Line

You will have to shell out some bucks if you are launching your boat at a State Park or any private marina. Fill out the information on the envelope and pay your fee prior to getting in line at the ramp.

Also, unhook your straps and remove your transom saver prior to getting to the water.Only leave your front strap hooked until you boat is in the water.

Backing Down the Ramp

Inexperienced inboaters are often uneasy about backing their boat down straight down the ramp. Make sure that you follow the following techniques.

• Just make sure that your trailer is right behind your truck. Just keep your wheel in line with the side of your truck.•	Place one hand on the bottom of the steering wheel to determine which way you want the trailer to move. If your boat needs to go to the left, move your bottom hand to the left. •	Practice in a parking lot away from the lake until you are comfortable backing the trailer in a straight line.

Boat Ramps with Multiple Lanes

If the boat ramp you are using can accommodate more than one boat at a time, make sure you don’t take up more than one space. This seems like a pretty obvious thing to do, but it happens all the time.

No Partner?

•	If you are fishing without a partner, make sure your front deck is clean and easily accessible. This will make climbing into your boat when it’s backed down the ramp quick and easy. • To ensure that you don’t block any other boaters once you move your tuck, it would be better to start your boat and quickly tie it off on the opposite side of the courtesy dock or pull your boat up onto the bank away from the ramp.

Courtesy Dock

The courtesy dock is for unloading your boat. Just change lures, re-coil your reels, motor out to the middle of the cove or the lake if you have to get rods ready. If you hang around the courtesy dock, it will definitely prevent other people launch their boats from using them.

Those who go bass fishing pursue the Black Bass, a species of fish. It includes Largemouth Bass, Kentucky Bass, and other species of genus Micropetrus. This fish specie comes from the southern part of the United States. This fish provided livelihood for natives residing in the coastline. During the later years, Bass fishing transformed into a recreational game.

In the 1950’s, bass fishing is considered to be the second most sought recreational activities in the ocean. Thus, this development paved the way for the innovation in their bass fishing techniques and improvement in the tools they use, like fishing gears, rods, and reels until they came up with electronically operated Bass boats.

Getting additional revenues for the government is one of the benefits of bass fishing. Bass fishing alone can generate about two billion dollars in Government revenues annually. It also helps to cultivate such specie of fish. Sports anglers together with government’s natural resources officers have introduced cultivating of Largemouth Bass across the world, especially in Japan and South Africa. These are the places where there is an abundant source of fishmeal.

The bass fishing sport help in the preservation of such species because one of the important rules is the catch and release principle wherein fishes caught during the game will be released right after. Competitors who came up with dead catch are heavily penalized. Wounded fish are first brought to the fish sanctuary to be treated, and after sometime, they are eventually released back into the water.

Bass Fishing is Popular to Freshwater Sport lovers

Freshwater sport enthusiasts describe bass fishing as one of the popularly searched topics in the Internet. Ninety percent of the search about bass fishing contains related information. They also stressed that unlike other professional sports like basketball, football, or hockey that you have to be a top athlete and show more extraordinary skills in order to win and be recognized, in bass fishing it is different. You need more time to practice it, and apply all the necessary techniques in order to succeed. The more you practice, the more you will master the techniques needed.

One of the best things about bass fishing is the great bonding that you will experience together with your loved ones. You will enjoy competing with your relatives as well as your friends. Camaraderie is also established with in strangers, as they will share their knowledge and engage themselves as a team against another team. Bass fishing is not only for men; it is also open for women. It is fun to see women do bass fishing and they find themselves laughing out when they are already winning.

Bass fishing also provides education to our young children. They can have a tour on the sanctuary where they will find the fishes used in bass fishing, relate to them their origin, and at the same time, how to cultivate such species of fish.

Since kids are curious in all things, you can also tell them the importance of the tools and their uses, and how they catch fish and treat it as a playmate. In one way or another, bass fishing is not only for recreational activities. It can also be an educational. I hope you have made up your mind and just thought of bass fishing.
